Know the Options Available to New Yorkers
Last month, we reminded readers of the New York City residential heat and hot water requirements for landlords, property managers, and building owners that residents should also be aware of. This isn’t the only important piece of information that New York residents should know! In fact, there are a couple more ways that New York State and NYSEC Bioheat® fuel dealers help homeowners during the winter:
- LIHEAP, or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program,is a federally funded program that helps low-income households with paying their heating bills, and repairing their home heating equipment.
- Third Party Notification is an ideal way to help prevent the elderly, sick or disabled from having their heat shut off in the middle of winter due to an inability to respond to phone calls, get the mail, answer the door, and so on. This program allows a third party to act as the contact for a customer who qualifies.
Keep these programs in mind in case you know someone who happens to need some help this winter. Everyone deserves to stay warm! If you’d like to learn more, feel free to contact NYSEC or your local Bioheat® fuel distributor.
