Cleaner, Green Heat from the Bronx to Bridgehampton

New York’s heating fuel dealers believe in protecting the environment and keeping our neighborhoods clean and green for future generations.

That’s why, with our support, the state currently requires all heating oil in New York City, Nassau County and Suffolk County to be B5 Bioheat® fuel containing a minimum of 5% renewable biofuel. It’s why our heating fuel is already among the cleanest and greenest available in the U.S. And it’s also why the renewable component of your Bioheat fuel will be increasing in the years ahead, making your home heating even cleaner and greener.

New York’s heating fuel dealers have committed to achieving emission reductions of 15% by 2023, 40% by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. To help reach these important goals, we plan to raise minimum biofuel levels to B20 by 2025 and B50 by 2030. It’s estimated that B20 Bioheat fuel can reduce our state’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 4.5 million pounds. That’s like taking 450,000 cars off the road. Even better, B50 Bioheat fuel can reduce GHG emissions by more than 11 million pounds, which is like taking 1.1 million cars off the road.

Of course, we wouldn’t be able to make these important strides without you, our loyal customers. Your communities are our communities. We work, live, and raise our families in the same neighborhoods, shop in the same stores and send our children to the same schools. Your future is our future. It’s thanks to all of us that the country’s largest heating fuel market is also its cleanest and greenest. From the Bronx to Bridgehampton and beyond, that’s something we can all be proud of.
